CoQ10 for women's health
|
Co-Enzyme
Q10, also known as CoQ10 and ubiquinone, is a nutrient often
recommended for older people, as the ability to produce it naturally
declines with age. It is required by the mitochondria within the cells
to produce energy in the form of ATP and is a vital nutrient for the
electron transfer chain to function at optimum capacity. Therefore, it
is the 'high energy' tissues such as heart and skeletal muscle, which
often have the greatest requirement for this compound. Indeed much of
the early work on CoQ10 was focused on it's effects on the heart and
ageing.
As more and more evidence supports our understanding of
CoQ10, it is now being used for a wider and wider number of conditions.
Many conditions which were previously considered to be an inevitable
side effect of getting older, are now being linked to mitochondrial
dysfunction. Benefits include the well-established – heart and energy
production but are now starting to extend to fertility, skin, cognitive
function, menstrual issues and PMS and migraine prevention and
alleviation. And as CoQ10 production starts declining at the age of 20
it is well worth considering starting early. Link to Article
