Multivitamins for everyone – new findings from dietary surveys
Most nutritionists have known for a while that many people have less than adequate nutrient intakes. Whether it is down to poor dietary choices, restrictive diets or lower nutrient levels in food due to farming methods, food miles or storage and cooking, many in the UK are simply not meeting their minimum requirements for many vitamins and minerals. A new report, Back To Basics: The Nutrients You Need, Served On A Plate, from the Health & Food Supplements Information Service (HSIS) shows that there are 8 nutrients of particular concern; vitamin D, folate, calcium, magnesium, selenium, iron, iodine and omega-3s. The authors recommend a multivitamin supplement as well as an omega 3, such as fish oil or an algal alternative, to bridge this nutritional shortfall and support good health. Link to Article
